Afteroom Chair and Side Table by Afteroom
Afteroom Chair and Side Table by the Taiwanese duo: Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei also know as Afteroom, are meant to be a homage to Bauhaus and functionalism. They are the result of deconstructing an item, piece by piece, with the purpose of obtaining an original design.
The three-legged chair and the side table are edited by Menu, a danish design company, who shares their conviction of reducing the amount of materials to the minimum and by doing so pushing the aesthetic appearance to the maximum.
The chair looks looks like a three-legged stool with a backrest reaching out from underneath. The rounded details such as the seat and flexible back support, both in wood, contrast with the solid steel frame.
The Taiwanese duo: Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei are operating from their Stockholm-based design studio. Their inspiration derives from an intriguing interest of forms, senses, proportions, materials and cultures. And with a clear and non-compromising aesthetic vision, they take the meaning of simplistic design to a whole new level.
“The Afteroom Chair is an homage to Bauhaus and functionalism. The simplicity of its design combined with the quality of materials is what’s important. We em- braced the challenge of designing something minimalistic with clean lines, without in any way compromise its comfort. In that sense we’ve looked towards classic Scandinavian features as inspiration”, says Hung-Ming.
Afteroom Chair is presented in black, white, Moss Green and Light Grey and the side table in black and white.
Afteroom is a design company in Stockholm and a advocate of the traces of time. The mission is simply to create beautiful products which will add value over time – design to grow old with. The inspiration derives from an intriguing interest of forms, senses, proportions, materials and cultures. The philosophy pivot around simplicity and honesty.
The company is founded and directed by Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei. More than including the designs of the founders – the company reaches out to designers near and far to contribute to the collection.
