Dualita by david/nicolas for Nilufar Gallery
Dualita, by the Beirut-based design studio david/nicolas, is a furniture collection that evokes conflict and duality. The apparent simplicity of the pieces hides its intricate and elegant details.
The collection was created as an exclusive edition for Nilufar Gallery and was presented during the last Milan Design week. The designers describe it as “a collection of furniture that becomes a scene, where the past clashes with the future”. The pieces are made out of metal tubes, satined copper details and upholstered with Alcantara textile.
The design studio was co-founded in 2011 by David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem in Beirut and is working locally and from abroad. The designers met in the Architecture Program at ALBA, where they were both students for 2 years and a half. Their obsession to details pushed them to switch from architecture to product design.
The philosophy of the studio is born from teamwork, which by definition implies working together, but it is often the different approaches, and diverging opinions that give the spaces and objects they work on their character, story and unique personalities.
Their work revolves around an idea: to try and create timeless pieces, they could be defined as retro-futuristic because of the way they joggle with different periods of design and mix them up, thus creating pieces that do not follow a certain “trend” but rather express a character which usually reflects the feeling they get when working on a specific product.
