Intro, a Restaurant and Club in Kuopio by Joanna Laajisto
The renovation of the Intro Restaurant and Club in Kuopio is the last project from Helsinki-based Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio. The Intro is all what you would expect from Laajisto; subtle sophistication and Nordic simplicity.
The intro is a classic Finnish restaurant located in the city of Kuopio. It’s 450 sq.mt large, includes fifty seats on one side and a nightclub of equal size on the other side. The simplicity of the restaurant and its subtle color palette give an impression of lightness. When looking closer the details reveal the work of Laajisto; punches of color are added in the textiles and fixtures, such as the sofas covered in woven Kvadrad wool fabric by Paul Smith and the red lamps suspended above the counter height table. The floor tiles give texture to the space with their monochromatic geometric patterns without being too bold.
Most of the furniture is custom made for the Intro and the white pendant lamps above the dining tables,Funnel, are made by a small Slovanian company called Vertigo Bird. The wooden dining chairs are by Ton.
The club can be accessed along an 11 meter long concrete bar which stands in front of a white washed brick wall. The bar level is higher to create a distinction and give it more presence. It’s furnished with slender metal and wood sofas covered with the same Paul Smith designed fabric and featured in both barstool and lounge heights.
