Modiste Furniture | Joeri Horstink & Jelle Baars
Modiste Furniture is a collaboration between Rotterdam-based interior architects Joeri Horstink & Jelle Baars. The idea behind the collection is expanding the modernist tradition by combining materials and traditional crafting techniques with the latest manufacturing processes.
Joeri Horstink & Jelle Baars describe their collection of tables and shelving systems as “Bona fide Modernist Furniture”. The name Modist is clever play with words of Modernism and Mode. The designers wanted to explore new perspectives inspired by the spirit of modernism.
When we think of modernism, we think about clear lines, rich materials and simple yet ingenious detailing, made with an unbridled optimism towards the future, they explain.
The modular shelving systems and credenzas are a simple alliance of slender frames and plywood shelves. Both designers were highly involved in the manufacturing process to ensure the highest quality furniture, as well as a close and personal relationship with their dedicated craftsmen in whom they put a great amount of trust. The continuous dialogue helps them coming up with beautiful, as well as feasible solutions, by using their skills combined with the designers ideas.
Making quality products starts with selecting the right materials. We take great pride in selecting only the finest available materials, by doing so, we can not only guarantee that we get quality we deem necessary to make our furniture, but also come across new and exciting materials for future endeavours along the way.
The Modist collection consists of two series fow now; the Modiste 600 series, a modular credenza that comes in two size and colour variations topped of with a pristine marble or granite top and the Modiste 900 series, a modular shelving system made up out of multiple open frames.
