Portuguese Roots Chair by Alexandre Caldas
The new Portuguese Roots Chair by Alexandre Caldas for AROUNDtheTREE is directly inspired by the Goncgalo chair from Arcalo created in 1953.
The chair is made out of solid wood, natural oil and natural cork fabrics to insure durability and impermeability.
Cork is a materiel of choice here since Portugal is home to more than 30 per cent of the world’s cork oak forest, and cork is considered one of the most sustainable natural materials, since it can be stripped from trees every nine years.
AROUNDtheTREE is a new Lisbon company that is, exploring the combination of cork with wood and producing a collection of smart, elegant contemporary chairs.
