Traveller Daybed by Gamfratesi

Traveller is an original daybed designed by Gamfratesi for Porro. It has a trestle structure in black  metal that can be used as a support to covers and cloths.

The back support of the Traveller is provided by side backrests which a “saddle effect” leather is stretched on available in natural aged or dark brown colours with two cushions covered in fabric. The Daybed is fitted with a mattress making the seat softer and covered in the same fabric as the cushions.

Is the spirit of the traveller who determines the elements and lines of the daybed Traveller, translating the resting pleasure in unknown places, the fear and at the same time the happiness of a mental journey between day memories or an abstract and imaginary journey in a dream world. Natural and honest materials, as the structure in black painted metal on which to place towels and clothes, the saddle stretched natural leather on the sides, strong but gentle to give the body a comfortable support, and finally the meshed fabric embracing the mattress and cushions, caressing them, as it is simply enough to stand among cared details, even to the other end of the world, to feel the pleasant sensation to be at home.

GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi aim to create furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony.

Gamfratesi studio was founded in 2006 by danish architect Stine Gam and italian architect Enrico Fratesi. the studio is based in Copenhagen, though Gam and Fratesi are continuously travelling between Italy and Denmark for development and research of new projects.
